History
Abbey Funeral Services Ltd is an independently owned and managed family business dedicated to carrying out funeral arrangements with sensitivity and dignity. The owners and Directors are Jim & Chris Parker and their daughter Jo.
We founded Abbey Funeral Services in 1983 when we both saw the need for a family based Funeral Directors in our community. Jim had previously worked within the funeral profession for a number of years and Chris worked as a trained nurse at the local hospitals.
In 1994 our daughter, Jo, joined the business and now takes care of the day to day management. Although retired, Jim does from time to time conduct funerals of people he has known, whilst Chris continues to oversee the business side and have a deep involvement with training and education in the wider profession, serving as the Director of Education for the Independent Funeral Director's College.
Chris served as National President of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors in 2006 – 2007. Jim is the current Vice President and will become National President in March 2010. This will be the first time that both a husband and wife have been honoured in his way in any funeral related trade organization. We are immensely proud to have been elected to represent our profession in this way.
In 2008 Abbey Funeral Services Ltd were runners up for the ‘Best Business in the Community’ section of the West Kent Business Excellence Awards. In 2009 we were delighted to win the award for Corporate Responsibility.
Abbey is the only independently owned and Family managed funeral directors in the Tonbridge area, a status of which we are very proud. We continue to work relentlessly to maintain the excellent reputation we have achieved over the years.
