Green Funerals - Green is the new Black
We are proud to be Founder Members of the Association of Green Funeral Directors and Jo Parker is a member of the Executive for the Association.Green Funerals are becoming more popular allowing the deceased to be buried in beautiful meadows or leafy woodland areas. The appearance of the location can vary dramatically between a natural burial ground and a woodland burial park, for example, the local council at the natural burial site in Otford plants a tree after each burial and therefore the appearance of the site may not be as pretty as the Woodland Burial Park in Epping which offers established woodland.
Usually the burial grounds are kept as wild as possible with graves often marked with a tree or simple wooden marker. Most burial ground authorities will not allow flowers or vases to be placed on the graves. As these places are conservation areas or natural woodland, coffins are usually constructed from biodegradable materials such as recycled paper products, wicker or willow and headstones are rarely permitted.
As with other funerals it is not necessary to have a religious ceremony. Whoever you wish can perform the service which would normally follow the pattern of a graveside gathering as Chapels are not always available on these sites.
We are able to assist you with information regarding locations and the suitability of the burial sites in our area. For further information you can contact the Natural Death Centre.
