Alternatives - Creating a unique experience and Self Help (DIY)
We believe that a funeral should be personal, a warm and joyful expression of all that has made a life unique.
We recognise that Funerals are changing and that people are becoming more aware of the alternatives available to them. Some may choose to depart from this life in a less sombre way than tradition has dictated in the past, with dark clothes, black hearse, and wooden coffin. We are happy to discuss with you ideas on how to tailor the service to celebrate the life of your loved one in a way that you and they would wish. This may involve a more modern type of coffin or form of transport - some of which are illustrated on our ‘coffins and Funeral Vehicles’ pages.
Some families may wish to be more involved in the ceremony and we are happy to advise and assist in any way that we are able. For example, we will provide the parts of the service that you are unable to provide for yourself. This may involve:
- Provision of a suitable vehicle and equipment to collect the deceased from a hospital.
- Provision of a suitable vehicle to transport coffin to crematorium or cemetery.
- Provision of a suitable vehicle for the carriage of mourners.
- Storage of the deceased up until the funeral - per 24 hours.
- Purchase of a coffin or casket.
- Facilities for washing and dressing the deceased.
- Giving advice about documentation and certificates, obtaining documents, liaising with relevant authorities, telephone calls and clerical time.
- Providing manpower for the funeral.
